A Bright Idea: Learning Through Shadows and Story
Shadow puppets and live theater help first graders see light, science, and stories come alive
Student Grant Recipients Total: 52
Estimated Award Amount: $1,594.00
This field trip turns a classic fairy tale into a “wow” moment for first graders. At Seattle Children’s Theatre, The Three Billy Goats Gruff uses shadow puppetry and performance to show how light really works. Who knew science could look like this?
As students watch shadows grow, shrink, and disappear, they’re learning core science concepts in a way that sticks. Just as important, they’re experiencing live theater together—laughing, wondering, and connecting as a community. Thanks to donor supporting the costs of transportation and theatre tickets for school chaperones and students, the first graders gain both scientific understanding and a lasting appreciation for the arts, all in one unforgettable day.
