Third Graders Explore Living Traditions at Burke

A hands-on museum visit brings Native American history, culture, and storytelling to life through artifacts

Student Grant Recipients Total: 47

Estimated Award Amount: $1050*

Third graders deepen their learning with a visit to the Burke Museum, where history comes alive through real artifacts and stories. With STARS funding transportation, admission, and access to the Living Traditions Program, students explore Northwest Coastal Native American fishing, weaving, carving, and storytelling traditions. A docent-led experience and a private, hands-on artifact session help students build meaningful background knowledge that directly supports their reading and writing units—turning classroom learning into something they can see, touch, and remember.
