Growing Curious Minds at the UW Botanic Gardens

Second grade students dig into plant science, habitats, and landforms – rooted in real-world learning

Student Grant Recipients Total: 44

Estimated Award Amount: $744*

This outdoor science adventure lets students dig into what they’ve been learning all year—literally. Thanks to STARS, admission to the UW Botanic Gardens and transportation costs are fully covered, making this hands-on science experience possible for all second grade students. While exploring the UW Botanic Gardens, students observe plants, animals, and landforms up close, making meaningful connections to their science units. With guidance from garden educators, kids see how seeds spread, land changes, and ecosystems work together, sparking curiosity and helping them understand how their choices can support a healthier environment.
