The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza!

A Live Theater Experience That Brings Books to Life

Students attend a Seattle Children’s Theatre performance that sparks imagination and a love of reading

Student Grant Recipients Total: 54

Estimated Award Amount: $1,549

Kindergarten students head to Seattle Children’s Theatre to see the The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza! performed live, transforming a familiar book into an exciting stage production. The performance features beloved literary characters by Mo Willems — The Pigeon, Gerald, Piggie, and a scurry of Squirrels — adored by children everywhere. With classmates, staff, and chaperones, students travel by bus and experience the magic of live theater with ticket and transportation costs fully supported by STARS funding.

Watching stories unfold on stage helps students deepen their connection to reading, storytelling, and imagination. By pairing literacy with the arts, this experience makes reading joyful, memorable, and engaging—helping students see books in a whole new way.
