Mr. Ochoa and Ms. Jarrell's Class Visit MoPOP
Students visit the Museum of Pop Culture to explore storytelling, enhance literacy, and create chibi-style artwork
Student Grant Recipients Total:Â 49
Estimated Award Amount:Â $1254*
STARS has fully funded a grant for Mr. Ochoa’s 3rd and 4th grade and Ms. Jarrell's 4th grade classes to take their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). This experience offers a dynamic blend of art, storytelling, and cultural exploration. Through interactive exhibits on music, sci-fi, fantasy, and comics, students engage with visual storytelling, symbolism, and character development—enhancing reading comprehension, critical thinking, and creativity. The grant covers admission, a private art workshop, and district transportation costs for students, teachers and chaperones.
In the Make and Take Printmaking Workshop, students explore chibi, a Japanese caricature style in anime and manga. They’ll create their own chibi-style portrait and a wax transfer print patch to take home, deepening their understanding of artistic techniques and symbolism. This experience fosters creativity, cultural awareness, and literacy skills in a fun, hands-on way. Bringing home their own artwork builds confidence and lasting engagement, making learning both meaningful and inspiring.
While not in the workshop, students will have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour with their chaperone to explore the Museum's storytelling exhibits.
