Kindergarteners to Explore Marine Life, Habitats
Sea-zing the Day: Students to dive into marine life with a hands-on, sensory-rich experience at Edmonds Beach
Student Grant Recipients Total: 60
Estimated Award Amount: $383*
STARS is fully funding the Kindergarten Marine Life Study Field Trip, giving students an exciting hands-on learning experience about animals and their habitats. This grant covers district bus transportation and a round-trip ferry ride to Kingston.
Our local beach, known for its diverse marine life, provides the perfect setting for exploration. The trip is scheduled during low tide, offering the best chance to observe a variety of sea creatures up close.
Leading up to the trip, students will dive into marine life studies in the classroom—exploring animal characteristics in science, reading nonfiction books about sea creatures, and researching an animal as part of the common core informational writing process. This prepares them to make real-world connections between their classroom learning and field observations.
Chaperones will receive a Parks & Recreation Field Guide to help student groups identify local wildlife in their natural habitat. The experience also includes a ferry ride to Kingston, where students will practice social communication skills and appropriate student behavior in a real-world setting.
*Total award amount is an estimate. Final numbers will not be available until all receipts have been submitted and projects completed.
