Kindergarteners Learn about Pumpkin Life Cycle
Students launch STARS field trips for 2023-24, exploring the pumpkin life cycle and farm fun at Swan Trails Farm
Student Grant Recipients Total: 54
Estimated Award Amount: $1,328.29
Our kindergarteners had a blast at Swan Trails Farm, diving into a day full of hands-on learning that brought their science lessons to life. Thanks to STARS, the $1,328.39 grant fully covered the trip, including district bus fees, tickets for 54 students and 21 parent/guardian chaperones, and a pumpkin for everyone to take home!
At the farm, students hopped on a tractor ride to the pumpkin patch, where they saw pumpkins growing right on the vine. They observed the different stages of the pumpkin life cycle and some students even watched as their chosen pumpkins were cut fresh from the field. Outside of pumpkin learning, the kids explored Swan Trails’ 45-acre farm, met friendly barn animals, navigated a hay maze, jumped around on the bouncy pillows, and took a corn box "swim.”
This experience connected these real-world observations to their curriculum back at school. Pumpkin-themed stations made learning even more exciting. In Mrs. Martin’s room, students explored the pumpkin life cycle and crafted pumpkin people. In Mr. Kindelberger’s room, they created spinning season wheels and measured and weighed pumpkins, also testing whether pumpkins float. The Kindergarteners also got hands-on with science experiments, mixing vinegar and baking soda inside pumpkins.
Field trips like these are possible thanks to your support of the STARS Foundation. We thank you for helping us continue enriching our students’ learning with more memorable adventures.
